_*$15,000 sign on bonus!*_*Position Details*: Nurse Resident - Full Time - 36 hours per week - Guthrie Cortland Medical Center*Position Summary:*Provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients in a scientific and humanistic focus. The Newly Licensed Registered Nurse (NLRN) utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in the physiological, psychological, social cultural, developmental and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age specific and are directed toward optimal wellness.The NLRN is a nurse who is in their first year of nursing practice. This role ends on the oneyear anniversary of their hire date. At this time, the NLRN transitions to the role of Staff Registered Nurse. The NLRN may occupy a Staff Registered Nurse position after the matching process, but is still considered an NLRN for the first year of practice.NLRNs are not allowed to cover the unit for lunches or breaks or be a shift/charge nurse until they have completed the orientation period.*Education, License & Cert:*The NLRN must be a graduate of a Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and have passed the state board examination by the State Board of Nursing in their state of practice before beginning employment. NLRNs who are graduates of a Diploma or Associate Degree program or possess a nonNursing Bachelor's Degree must demonstrate enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire and earn a BSN within four (4) years from their date of hire. The NLRN must successfully complete a medication and IV challenge examination, as outlined by the hospital within the orientation period, as well as maintain CPR certification.*Experience:*The NLRN enters practice at a Guthrie Hospital through the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Residency Program. Clinical specialty tracks may be offered at individual hospitals. Registered nurses with less than one year's experience must be hired through this program and may not be hired directly into an open position on any specific unit.*Essential Functions:*1. Employs Nursing Professional Practice: Assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, and evaluates patients' care. Develops updates and coordinates the patients' plan of care to achieve patient goals and to optimize outcomes and transitions across the continuum. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Performs and maintains the currency of essential competencies as required by a specific area of hire and population served.2.Advocates: Effectively advocates for ethical and holistic care by partnering in care planning to promote the autonomy, dignity, rights, values, and beliefs of those we serve.3.Facilitates Learning: Fosters a learning environment for patients/families, nursing, and other members of the healthcare team, including student; Facilities formal and informal learning for patients/families, nursing, other members of the healthcare team, and community.4.Aligns Practice with Safety and Quality: Accountable for safety, identifies and corrects problems, and integrates evidence and best practice into nursing care; uses data and evidence to improve patient outcomes. Aligns patient safety, selfsafety, and environmental safety as equally important for best outcomes.5.Engages in Professional Development: Engages in ongoing professional development; practices at the top of license within the legal parameters of the Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and specialty standards. Promotes a culture of inquiry that explores, integrates, and disseminates research and evidencebased practice.6.Leader in Practice Setting & Community: demonstrates leadership as change agents using the collaborative leadership skills of advocacy, influence and innovation. In partnering with colleagues appropriately delegates, coordinates care, and collaborates with others as equal members of the interprofessional care team to integrate nursing knowledge.
