Overview









The Physical Therapy Department at Clarkson University invites applicants to apply for a full time core faculty position as Chair and Program Director. This position is a 12-month tenure or clinical track position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with rank and salary commensurate with credentials and experience. This position reports to the Dean of the Lewis School of Health Sciences. We are seeking a faculty candidate who will contribute to the department and the profession through innovation and collaboration. Candidates should be comfortable working in a highly interactive and collaborative teaching/learning environment. The Clarkson University Physical Therapy program received initial CAPTE accreditation in 2001, with continuing accreditation through 2027. An interactive curriculum based on experiential learning and small class sizes allow for individualized student-centered experiences. The program is supported by strong clinical partners with diverse clinical backgrounds, actively engaged and supportive of our educational mission and research agendas. As part of Clarkson University's Lewis School of Health Sciences, the physical therapy program is committed to a shared vision for interprofessional education and collaboration. Potsdam, NY is the cultural and educational hub of Northern New York, with four universities in the area. In the Adirondacks of New York State, Potsdam is picturesque with much to offer outdoor enthusiasts. Potsdam offers a small town experience with reasonable cost of living, good school districts, and a safe environment to raise a family, yet relatively close to the urban opportunities afforded by Ottawa, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec. Clarkson University is a nationally recognized research university with signature areas of academic excellence and research directed toward the world's pressing issues. With more than 4,300 undergraduate and graduate students, its main campus is located in Potsdam, N.Y., and additional graduate program and research facilities are located in the Capital Region and Beacon, N.Y. One in five alumni already leads as an owner, CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Clarkson University DPT Program:
We seek to guide the next generation of movement experts by promoting the well-being of our local community and those all around the globe. Through a Problem-Based Learning curriculum and hands-on clinical experience, we develop leaders in physical therapy that make sound clinical decisions and implement feasible solutions. Our unique learning environment provides students tight-knit connections with their peers, faculty, and the community at large and the ability to take their expertise anywhere. The Department has 9 full-time faculty with maximum cohorts sizes 30 students resulting in a student ratio of 10-1.













Qualifications









The program director demonstrates the academic and professional qualifications and relevant experience in higher education requisite for providing effective leadership for the program, the program faculty, and the students.
These qualifications include all of the following:

  • physical therapist who holds (or eligible) an active, unrestricted PT license in New York;
  • earned academic doctoral degree;
  • holds or would be eligible for the rank of associate professor, professor, clinical associate professor, or clinical professor;
  • minimum of six years of full-time higher education experience, with a minimum of three years of full-time experience as a core faculty member in a CAPTE accredited entry-level physical therapist education program;
  • demonstrate leadership experience including, but not limited to, responsibility for communication, program assessment and planning, fiscal management, and faculty evaluationPreferred:
    • History of scholarship including presentations and peer-reviewed publications;
    • Experience as a DPT program director;
    • Recent and relevant clinical and teaching experience;
    • Leadership in a professional organization at a state or national level.
    • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
      • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels
      • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
      • Knowledgeable regarding Microsoft Office and Google Suite and standard methods of digital communication
      • Comprehensive computer skills with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology
      • Display tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high level university officials and the public
      • Ability to work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people
      • Ability to exercise excellent judgment and maintain composure in complex, new and/or challenging situations
      • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet strict deadlines
      • Detail oriented
      • Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment
