Job Description:
SUNY Broome Community College is seeking candidates for a
full-time, 10-month, tenure-track appointment as Instructor or
Assistant Professor in the Health Information Technology Department
starting in Fall 2025. This faculty opportunity comes with an
academic work schedule from August to May with time off to enjoy
the summer months. Ten (10) month salary is spread over twelve (12)
months to allow for consistent, uninterrupted pay periods. Benefits

The department offers an A.A.S. in Health Information Technology,
provided in a fully online modality. The program is accredited by
the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and
Information Management Education (CAHIIM) and is a Registered
Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification preparing
program.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in a variety of HIT
courses via an online format, which could include, but is not
limited to, asynchronous and synchronous modalities.
Develop and update course syllabi, assignments, and assessments in
alignment with CAHIIM standards.
Assist in the acquisition and maintenance of clinical
affiliations.
Assist with student placement and coordination of clinicals.
Provide academic support and mentorship to students, including
advising, tutoring, and career guidance.
Maintain an inclusive classroom environment that supports all
students, including adult learners, those from diverse backgrounds,
learning abilities, and varying levels of technological
literacy.
Participate in accreditation and assessment processes, and support
the program's compliance with CAHIIM accreditation standards.
Participate in department and division meetings, curriculum
development, and College-wide committees and initiatives.
Participate in community events and outreach efforts to aid in the
recruitment of students.
Participate in retention efforts within the department, division,
and College.
Stay current with developments in the field of Health Information
Management and integrate relevant industry trends into the
curriculum, in accordance with CAHIIM standards.
Engage in professional development activities to enhance teaching
skills and remain knowledgeable in areas of expertise within the
field of Health Information Management.
Requirements:
The Assistant Professor position requires a Master's degree in an
appropriate field with either three (3) years of teaching
experience or an appropriate combination of teaching, relevant work
experience, or scholarly activity. Additional coursework in an
appropriate field is desirable.
The Instructor position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
Individuals with less than a Master's Degree will be given four (4)
years to secure an approved Master's Degree. Work experience in an
area appropriate to the teaching field is strongly preferred.
AHIMA credential (RHIT or RHIA) and/or a coding/specialty
credential (either CCS, CCS-P, CDIP, CHDA, or CHPS) is required,
per CAHIIM requirements. Within two years of hire, candidates must
have obtained one of the coding specialty credentials, which would
be supported through professional development funding.
Background in and current knowledge of Health Information
Management, as well as educational theory and methodology (e.g.,
curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction,
measurement, evaluation, and assessment) consistent with teaching
assignment.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate would possess digital fluency in order to
deliver highly effective and engaging courses, as well as a
willingness to embrace innovative teaching methods, which
incorporate the use of technology. The successful candidate will
have previous experience teaching undergraduate courses related to
HIT, utilizing technologically rich teaching delivery methods. A
commitment to obtain or maintain proficiency in the use of
technology to deliver pedagogically appropriate educational content
is required. Familiarity with the accreditation standards of CAHIIM
is a plus; commitment to learn, if not familiar is required.

Additional Information:
The minimum annual salary for the Assistant Professor position is
$56,606. Salary offer will be based on the candidate's
qualifications and experience.
The minimum annual salary for Instructor is $51,914. Salary offer
will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
