(Physical Therapist Assistant Department)

SUNY Broome Community College is seeking candidates for an in-person, full-time, 10-month, tenure-track appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Physical Therapist Assistant Department starting in Fall 2025. This faculty opportunity comes with an academic work schedule from August to May with time off to enjoy the summer months. Ten (10) month salary is spread over twelve (12) months to allow for consistent, uninterrupted pay periods. Benefits include, but are not limited to: Medical, Dental, and optional Vision and Flexible Benefit Plan.

The department offers an A.A.S. in Physical Therapist Assistant. The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and is a NYS licensure preparing program.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Physical Therapist Assistant courses, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, and preparing students for careers as a Physical Therapist Assistant. This role requires a passion for teaching and a commitment to student success in a diverse community college setting. The candidate in this role will be expected to perform clinical education coordination duties.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in a variety of Physical Therapist Assistant courses.
Develop and update course syllabi, assignments, and assessments in alignment with PTA program goals and the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy (CAPTE) standards.
Assist in the acquisition and maintenance of clinical affiliations.
Assist with student placement and coordination of clinicals.
Provide academic support and mentorship to students, including advising, tutoring, and career guidance.
Maintain an inclusive classroom environment that supports students from diverse backgrounds and learning abilities.
Participate in accreditation and assessment processes, and support the program's compliance with CAPTE accreditation standards.
Participate in department meetings, curriculum development, and College-wide committees and initiatives.
Stay current with developments in the field of Physical Therapy and integrate relevant industry trends into the curriculum in accordance with Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy (CAPTE) standards.
Engage in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and remain knowledgeable in area of expertise within the field of Physical Therapy.


Requirements:

An active, unencumbered Physical Therapy license or a Physical Therapist Assistant license/certificate in any United States jurisdiction and compliance with the state practice act in New York is required, per CAPTE standards.

A Master's degree in a health-related field from an accredited institution.

A minimum of 3 years of full time (or equivalent) post-licensure clinical experience in physical therapy practice and contemporary expertise in assigned teaching areas is required. (Candidates will be expected to provide documentation to demonstrate that they have met the CAPTE criteria of possessing expertise specific to assigned teaching content.)

AND:

A minimum of two years of clinical practice as either a site clinical coordinator or clinical instructor in a clinical setting (e.g., as part of employment as a PT/PTA), or experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a physical therapy education program.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to teach a range of Physical Therapy Assistant and healthcare related courses.
Experience in or commitment to teaching at the community college level.
Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and motivate students.
Familiarity with instructional technology and online teaching platforms (e.g., Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas, or similar Learning Management Systems).


Additional Information:

The minimum annual salary for this position is $56,606. Salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
